The World Seniors Darts (WSD), formerly The World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT), staged its first World Senior Championships event on 3-6 February. The WSDT 2022-2024 criteria were open to players of 50 Years or over. However, since the name change to WSD, the entry age has been reduced to 45 years or older.
At 54, Robert Thornton won the first WSD World Championship staged event.
The packed venue, along with BBC iPlayer and BT Sport coverage, was a roaring success, encouraging other stars from the past to sign up to feature WSD events. TV Broadcasters have varied from the BBC iPlayer to the TNT TV subscription channel. See the WSD website for the latest TV broadcast details.
Players over fifty can also enter the qualifiers, and successful players win a place in the event finals. Hence, we expect more dart stars to enter future events.
Since February 2024, the WSD has adopted a new ranking system and added qualifying events for players to participate in the headline tournament.
The best dart players from the event qualifiers feature in a series of events. The World Seniors Darts features past World Champions from the BDO and PDC. However, the darts are as good as ever.
